Let’s get this out of the way first though: no, OPPO didn’t unveil any new phone at its Innovation Event today. That being said, the company has confirmed that its first ever 5G phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.
According to the presentation by the President of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon at the event, OPPO’s upcoming 5G phone will also include the Snapdragon X50 5G modem instead of the newly announced Snapdragon X55 modem. With that information, it is likely that OPPO’s new 5G phone is going to be launched within the next few months even though OPPO didn’t reveal any actual release date for the phone at today’s event. Given that the implementation of 5G in Malaysia is still at its infancy, we don’t expect this phone to appear in our market. Maybe its successor would have a better chance to be released in Malaysia but of course, that would depend on whether the local mobile industry has moved to 5G or otherwise by that time.
