For those who missed it, Shopee first teased this new food delivery service back in June and started a recruitment drive for delivery partners at the same time. The company had also opened up partner registrations for potential food vendors who are interested to participate earlier this month. Unlike the existing ShopeeFood service in Vietnam and Indonesia that is offered as a standalone, the local version is accessible directly in the e-commerce platform’s main app.

The concept for Shopee’s new service is no different from competitors such as GrabFood, FoodPanda, and airasia food. Find the eateries via the app’s search bar, then scroll through the desired restaurant’s menu to select a meal, add it to your cart, and finally check out to complete your purchase. Once your order has been placed, the service will then assign a driver or rider to pick up the meal from the restaurant and deliver it directly to you. Again, much like its competitors, the delivery partner’s real-time location will be provided to you while they are in transit.

The company says that ShopeeFood will be rolled out in batches at launch, offering customers access to a variety of eateries including A&W, Burger King, Starbucks, Tealive, as well as local street food stalls. In conjunction with the service’s launch, Shopee will also be giving new users Free Delivery vouchers with RM0 minimum spend and discount vouchers worth up to RM8. Additionally, it will also offer RM10 and below meal deals for a limited time from 24 to 28 September, while stocks last. (Source: Shopee press release / z website)
