According to LetsGoDigital, the patent was submitted to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). As the current moment, there’s very little information regarding the display or what the “S” in SAMOLED even stands for. However, on-going speculation suggests that the display may make an appearance on not just the upcoming Galaxy S11 series, but also the Galaxy Fold 2.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has upped the ante with its AMOLED display technology. This year, the Korean electronics giant introduced its Dynamic AMOLED display with its Samsung Galaxy S10 series. The display is essentially an OLED panel with HDR10+ support and a pixel density of 526 PPI. On a side note, it’s important to note that the patent-pending SAMOLED panel should not be confused with the Super AMOLED panel. Samsung has been quite aggressive with its patents in the past few months including an in-screen camera, sliding display and AR headset patent. And this latest patent submission seems to reaffirm its commitment towards innovating display technology.
As it is with all patents, there’s a possibility that Samsung may not even go ahead with SAMOLED. Therefore, we advise you not to hold your breath on this development, at least until Samsung’s next Unpacked event. (Source: LetsGoDigital via GSMArena)
