“I hope you’ll join us as we debut our next Galaxy Z family and share some foldable surprises — including the first-ever S Pen designed specifically for foldable phones,” Roh wrote. “Instead of unveiling a new Galaxy Note this time around, we will further broaden beloved Note features to more Samsung Galaxy devices.” While the announcement may have confirmed earlier rumours of Samsung not debuting a new Galaxy Note smartphone, it does not spell the end for the much beloved series. There’s a chance that the brand could still introduce new entries to its secondary flagship line in the future, as it has not officially retired it just yet.

Given that the global shortage of silicon is still currently ongoing, it isn’t surprising that Samsung has decided to skip the Galaxy Note’s usual launch window in August for a later date. That, or a new successor won’t be making an appearance until sometime next year. Nevertheless, plenty of fans will be disappointed to know that the series won’t be making an appearance anytime soon. As noted by Roh, the brand will be introducing a new S Pen for its foldable phones during the Unpacked event. However, details of this accessory are still shrouded in mystery, so it is unknown whether it will be available on its own, or together with a case (ala the version introduced for the Galaxy S21 Ultra). Other than that, the Samsung executive also hinted that certain features that were formerly exclusive to the Note series will be making their way to other Galaxy-branded devices. Expect more information regarding this and the new S Pen to be further explained during the event. On that note (no pun intended), the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked will be an online-only launch happening on 11 August 2021 at 10pm local time via the brand’s official website and social media channels. Besides the next generation Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series, it is expected that Samsung will debut two new Galaxy-branded smartwatches during the event as well.
