Much like the current Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765, the Snapdragon 690 5G was designed by its parent company, in an effort to bring 5G connectivity to the mainstream and mid-range masses. Specs-wise, the Snapdragon 690 5G is an octa-core chipset running in a 2+6 core configuration. With two big cores being ARM Cortex-A77 Kryo 650 chips running at 2GHz and the remaining six ARM Cortex-A55 Kryo 560 chips operating at 1.7GHz. By comparison, that’s an approximate 20% increase in performance from the current Snapdragon 675. Moreover, the Snapdragon 690 5G is built on an 8nm LPP die lithography that is also made more efficient than the Snapdragon 675’s 11nm LPP die lithography. Graphics-wise, the new chipset sports an improved Adreno 619L mobile GPU. Regarding its 5G connectivity, the Snapdragon 690 is paired with a Snapdragon X51 5G modem-RF system, with support for the sub-6GHz spectrum, plus 4×4 MIMO. Further, the chipset can support memory speeds of up to 2133MHz, as well as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ fast-charging technology. As for other supported features on the Snapdragon 690 5G, the official specs sheet says that the chipset is capable of supporting 120Hz refresh rate displays, up to 192MP camera sensors, and 4K HDR video recording. As to when you can expect to see the Snapdragon 690 5G SoC, Qualcomm says that we can expect the chipset to appear in mobile devices sometime in the second half of this year.
