On the company’s Japanese and European website, Nintendo has put the “out of production” label on the handheld’s page, and all of its variants. On its US site, the company has scrubbed mention of the handheld entirely. It even went as far as redirecting its dedicated 3DS page back to the home page.

All things considered, it’s not entirely surprising. The Nintendo 3DS has had nearly a decade-long run. It’s main gimmick, the portable 3D screen, never really took off. Implementation of the tech was wonky, even at the best of times, and it also increased battery consumption. Nevermind the fact that not many games actually made use of it to begin with. And now, obviously, the company wants all of everyone’s attention on the Nintendo Switch instead. And with the 3DS production ending, the company can focus all of those resources into making the improved Switch, rumoured to be coming next year. (Source: Nintendo Enthusiast)
