ORIGINAL STORY (4:38 PM): Maybank2U users have been reporting difficulties in accessing or utilizing services provided by the popular online banking platform at the moment. The same also applies to debit card payments, ATMs, Self Service Terminals (SSTs), and banking at on-site branches. It is not clear when exactly it began but due to the disruption, some users may encounter long loading times when they tried to run the MAE app and that’s if the app managed to run at all. Many users encounter the same experience on Maybank2U mobile and desktop websites as well. Maybank debit card users also found themselves not able to perform payments which is something that we have experienced ourselves at around 3:30 PM today prior to Maybank’s official announcement regarding the disruption. Interesting enough, Maybank customers can still perform credit card payments although they will not able to access the credit card section of the MAE app and Maybank2U websites at the moment as they will encounter these errors:
Meanwhile, it turns out the MAE app, Maybank2U websites, and debit card payments are not the only thing that are facing problems right now. According to the official statement released by Maybank at 3:55 PM on its Facebook page, it turns out that on-site banking services, as well as the bank’s ATMs and SSTs, are not accessible by customers at the moment. However, the statement did not include any information regarding recovery times though which is rather worrisome given the fact that these disruptions are happening on the eve of a national public holiday. We are monitoring the situation and will keep you posted once we notice any further updates. UPDATE (6:15 PM): Just minutes before 5:00 PM, Maybank has posted another notice on its Facebook page to inform customers that all of its services have since returned to normal: Once again, the brief notice did not contain any details regarding the cause of the downtime which took place at least throughout the entire afternoon. At the same time, the company also didn’t address the issue related to the credit card that we pointed out in the original story.
That being said, our quick check showed that users are now able to access their credit card information once again through Maybank2U websites and MAE App. All in all, it seemed that things are indeed back to normal for Maybank customers out there.
