Like its predecessor, Android 11 Go Edition is designed to work on smartphones with less RAM. Specifically, the lightweight OS supports devices with 2GB RAM or less – as long as it is not below 512MB. Previously, smartphones were required to have 1.5GB RAM or less in order to have the Android 10 version of Go installed. This updated version of Android Go comes with a variety of new features that are also found in the full build. These include grouped notifications for chat apps, one-time permissions for apps to access certain phone features, and a new gesture-based navigation for the user interface. Google claims that apps on Android 11 Go Edition will also launch 20-percent faster this time around. The company did not specify which devices will receive the update, or launch with the new lightweight OS. Its release date in other regions outside of the US has also not been confirmed.
