During this year’s Google I/O, the search engine announced the Pending Transactions feature for the Play Store. This feature works with you requesting a payment code when you’ve decided to buy something. Then, you head on to a nearby store, present the code and complete the transaction with cash. You’ll get your purchase, and an email receipt within 10 minutes. Rather, you’re supposed to, since the fine print says the process can take up to 48 hours, according to TechCrunch....

The Wall Street Journal reports that this program, known as Project Bernanke was revealed via court documents filed in an antitrust lawsuit in Texas. Under the project, Google makes use of historical data from publishers’ ad servers to undercut the competition. The internet search giant claims that this is comparable to data maintained by other buying tools. That being said, the potential problem lies with the fact that Google is both the operator of a major ad exchange as well as a representative of buyers and sellers in the very same exchange....

We worked with global regulators on an approach which safeguards consumers’ privacy expectations, including a series of binding commitments that confirm Fitbit users’ health and wellness data won’t be used for Google ads and this data will be separated from other Google ads data....

Appropriate puns aside, this will be done through a partnership with Citigroup and Stanford Federal Credit Union. The checking accounts will also be accessible from the Google Pay app. Beyond the partnership, Google has announced little else about its move into the banking space. Caesar Sengupta, Google’s vice president of product management, said that Cache is designed to “help more people do more stuff in a digital way online”. He also pointed out that while checking accounts can contain a lot of data on consumer spending and earning, the company won’t be selling them to advertisers....

While nothing has been revealed about the potential Google laptop, the smartwatch has made a few appearances in the form of patents. A month ago, the company was granted a patent depicting a watch with a camera. An earlier patent back in April depicted quick band release mechanisms. This also isn’t the first time a Pixel Watch is rumoured to be launched alongside Pixel phones. A similar rumour surfaced last year, before the launch of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL....

This process is achieved via machine learning, where the app analyses a photo to determine its depth and produces a 3D representation of the scene. Google says that the information gathered is then animated using a “virtual camera” for a smooth zooming effect as demonstrated in the example below. In a blog post, Google announced that it will be merging Currents with Spaces, which is the company’s own business communications platform. In other words, its own version of Slack. This is all set to happen by 2023, though no specific dates were mentioned. Google Spaces has its own turbulent history. As Android Central points out, it was initially shelved in 2017, just a year after launch. Then Google replaced Rooms with Spaces last year, with better incorporation of other Workspace apps like Docs....
